Lots going on in the Food is Free gardens this month. Queen Street has been a hive of activity this month already with Libby, Brian and Alec from Colourful Carnoustie prepping, planting and putting together a donated green house. Libby loves her Lasagna Gardening and has done a bit more of it again this year at Queen Street and we had a four legged visitor curious to see what was going on. Panda Lane saw the delivery and erection of a huge polytunnel generously donated to us by Angus Growers. We had a Seed Sowing day, a Sun Flower growing competition, a water tap supplied and fitted by Smyths and a delivery of surplus strawberry plants that would have otherwise been thrown in the dump! Lots of families are coming along to join in and take part in all that's going on. Kids as young as 2 can been seen playing in the soil, helping to dig, planting and generally getting their hands (and the rest of them) dirty. We have one tiny wee wheel barrow which is very popular and keeps kids occupied for ages. Some parents are commenting on how much they are enjoying seeing their kids covered from head to toe in dirt! The polytunnel is allowing us to carry on no matter what the weather and a place to have a rest and a natter. Laura and Libby tried out the donated patio furniture (purely for testing purposes) and Bob the builder has been busy building tables, planters, gates, fencing. You name it he's building it! Laura has put out a request for any surplus paint and paintbrushes for this weekends "Painting at Panda Lane" Laura posted on our facebook wall "It would be great to get those planters all painted bright colours! Weather permitting! There will be a list of jobs needing done so people can have a look and see what they can do. We also would like to sit and have a blether with everyone to hear your views and ideas (big or small) for the garden. Anyone with spare colourful paint and brushes please bring them along. And there is still plenty of growing to be done in the poly tunnel." So get yourselves along this Saturday 23rd of April to Panda Lane Carnoustie! " Check out our facebook page for more info and up-to-date shenanigans and remember to like us and share. | |
